About MCSCRC

Understanding stem cell research is important because it has the potential to revolutionize medical treatment. This exciting research will likely take us to new levels of discovery, helping us overcome medical challenges as never before. Michigan Citizens for Stem Cell Research & Cures’ coalition members are working to provide that essential education to the residents of Michigan. Our diverse and growing partners include patient advocacy organizations, business and civic leaders, nonprofit organizations, leading research and medical organizations, policy makers, human service organizations, opinion leaders, members of universities and individual residents from all walks of life and political affiliations.

MISSION
Michigan Citizens for Stem Cell Research & Cures is a coalition of Michigan citizens and organizations dedicated to educating our state's residents about stem cell research and its potential for life-saving cures and treatments. As our name indicates, MCSCRC supports all forms of ethical stem cell research and is helping our state's citizens understand this science and its promise. However, as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit educational organization MCSCRC does not and cannot express support for any piece of legislation or political petition related to stem cell research.

Since our beginning in 2006 through the first quarter of 2009, MCSCRC educational efforts have included

  • 297 educational presentations
  • 36 newsletters and 6 Special Alerts to 8,500 subscribers
  • 11 cable and TV shows with a combined audience of 1.75 million people
  • 10 radio programs with 630,000 combined listeners
  • 15 editorial board visits to various publications to educate the media about this important topic

Researchers see in stem cell research the possibility of diminishing, controlling or even curing life-destroying diseases and injuries including Parkinson’s, diabetes, ALS, spinal cord injury, macular degeneration, arthritis and others that have, until now, eluded us. We will continue our efforts to share that exciting news with the community.

Because MCSCRC is a nonprofit organization, we rely on the generosity of volunteers to help us pursue our Mission. We are particularly grateful to our Board of Directors and Advisory Committee members who have shared their time, their wisdom, their experience and their commitment to help this organization reach so many people.
