MCSCRC Special Alert
Welcome!

Dear Stem Cell Research Supporter,

Hope for Michigan patients is once again under attack and we need your help TODAY!

It has come to our attention that those who do not support the progression of stem cell research in our state are collecting legislators’ signatures on a letter to the Higher Education Conference Committee members urging inclusion of the stem cell reporting language.

This amendment that was initially introduced by Senator Tom George and proposed by Representatives Hildenbrand and Dean, requires any public university that received donated human embryos to submit a report to the Michigan Department of Community Health director by December 1.

This report requires details such as how many embryos were donated, how many were used for research, how many were discarded, how many have been stored. It is not clear as to what purpose this information will serve, but we have been told by experts in the Life Sciences community the information has absolutely nothing to do with the actual research itself.

There is no public health issue. The Department was not consulted and publicly opposes this amendment. Additionally, stem cell research reporting requirements exist on a state and federal level.

If you believe that stem cell research should progress in our state, as mandated by the voters in the amendment to our State Constitution, you should contact the members of the Higher Ed Conference Committee today regarding Senate Bill 1157!
